Local SEO
Local SEO
Why is Local SEO becoming one of the newest terms in the Internet Marketers arsenal? Because for the most part, most local businesses aren’t doing it.
Whether local webdesigners don’t offer it, or they charge extra (rightfully so) fort it and the owner turns it down. Either way, local searchers are woefully underserved by local businesses in their attempts to find out how to purchase products and services locally.
For example, one set of keywords in the Southwest Florida Region of this country routinely receives over 100,000 searches per month.
These are city targeted searches that could be high paying leads to the business owner or local marketer who would simply add a few keywords to their website.
In an era when most businesses are seeing a 30% decrease in revenue or more, we are unsure why companies are unwilling to make these changes to their website.
Imagine if you will spending $2,000 dollars on 100,000 fliers and only handing them out to customers you speak to personally. Seems somewhat wasteful doesn’t it? Now imagine that at the same time you have 100,000o people standing outside your door interested in your product or service and not handing them out because they cost too much!
Does the above scenario make any sense?
We understand that any added expense may seem like an extravagance but with the considerable decrease in returns people are experiencing with the once golden Yellow Pages and the seemingly massive influx of traffic on the Web, this expense could be more costly to go without it then to have it.
We are wondering if the lack of local business for owners stems from the economy or from a massive shift in where prospective customers go to find their information.
Bear in mind that recent studies show that 80% of all purchases were searched online prior to pulling the trigger.
Now where would your business be with 10 more customers a month, 100, 1000.
To check your current SEO take a moment and look at these important areas.
Go to the Google Keyword Tool and search for the products and services you provide. Make sure that you include your city, i.e. denver roofers. Click on the words “Local Search Volume” to order the results in order from most searches to least. What you are seeing is the amount of people who searched for those keywords last month!
Next visit your website using Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you look up to the upper left hand corner of the screen, you will see that your title is listed there and it probably says “Your Business Name” This is bad, because your customers aren’t looking here to find out what you are called, Google is looking here to find out what you do.
Your title should be “Denver Roofing | Larry’s Denver Roofers” or some such. You will also want to make sure that those keywords are in your website description as well.
And you must have those same keywords as a title on your page and in the text of your website.
This is because Google is looking for consistency. Having your keywords listed in these crucial areas tells Google what your site is about and asks them to index you accordingly.
